Mission: Global Health medical education and resident training trip and pediatric and adult outreach mission, with targeted program support and professional and community education opportunities. This trip is co-sponsored by Goryeb Children’s Hospital.

Mission: General medical education and pediatric and adult outreach mission, with targeted program and professional and community education opportunities. The team will hold outreach clinics along with staff on the ground and provide support to our malnutrition program, Helping Babies Survive and community health workers programs.

2019

Dates: January 6-12 2019

Mission: Ophthalmology and optometry specialty trip with a focus on education and outreach. The ophthalmologists taught residents in training at the main hospital in Port au Prince, and then moved to Cap Haitien, where they continued to work with and train local ophthalmologists at Hopital Sacre-Coeur and at a HUFH sponsored eye clinic. The optometrists spent the entire week holding outreach clinics in and around Cap Haitien, providing direct outreach and teaching to both ophthalmologists and optometrists. A bio-medical engineer provided repairs of previously donated equipment.

2018

Dates: December 2 – 9 2018

Mission: Global Health Resident Training/Obstetrics & Gynecology trip. The team provided support for our Cervical Cancer Screen & Treat Program, offered advanced training for medical professionals in how to treat lesions found during the screening process (LEEP), and held outreach sessions, screening hundreds of women in remote communities for cervical cancer. This trip was co-sponsored by Morristown Hospital.

Mission: This was a global health nursing education trip and outreach mission co-sponsored by North Dakota State University for its senior nursing students. The team worked with local doctors and nurses, providing program assistance, education and helping to teach Haitian nursing students.

Mission: This was a joint Goryeb Children’s Hospital and Jersey Shore Medical Center Pediatric Global Health trip for residents, based at the Haiti Village Health Site, Bod me Limbe and the Shada Clinic in Cap Haitien.

Mission: This was a Global Health medical education trip and adult and pediatric outreach mission with targeted program and professional and community education opportunities. This trip was sponsored by Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for Children and Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Morristown Medical Center. The team held outreach clinics on the Bas Limbe peninsula and in remote and rural communities around Cap Haitian.

Mission: This was a targeted program support trip, with professional education, community teaching and community outreach and clinical opportunities. The team helped launch our new Community Health Worker program providing substantive education and skills training, and worked together with our on-the-ground malnutrition program staff to evaluate and improve the program.

The team spent their time on the ground working with local doctors and nurses, providing education and helping to teach Haitian nursing students.

Mission: This was a global health education trip for residents in Family Practice and other volunteers sponsored by the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Team Broken Earth. The team conducted pediatric outreach sessions and delivered professional education lectures on wound care and diabetes.

Mission: This was a post-Hurricane Matthew general/pediatric trip with community teaching and community outreach opportunities focusing on clean water, health and cholera prevention, and review and follow up of malnutrition programs. The team launched HUFH’s new hypertension screen and treat program in the village of Dondon, visited the wells we have built to make certain they are all in good repair and worked in Clinics in and around Cap Haitien, including Shada Clinic and Open Door Clinic.

The team held outreach clinics at Open Door, Bord de Mer Limonade, Jolitrou, and Shada, delivered community lectures and held focus groups on domestic violence and community gardening at the different sites, and ran youth groups as well. The team taught Essential Care for Every Baby: Helping Babies Survive, and helped prepare the course attendees to begin to teach others.

Mission: This global health OB/Gyn trip provided training to Haitian medical professionals from Haiti Hospital Appeal and Justiien Hospital in portable ultrasound use at mobile clinics. Patients at mobile clinics and outpatient clinics were also seen, and a portable ultrasound machine was donated for use at Haiti Hospital Appeal.

Mission: This was a general-pediatric trip with community education about clean water and health, health education for adolescents, review and follow up of malnutrition programs, and community outreach opportunities. Mission: This was a combined Public Health, Program Evaluation and Clinical Outreach Trip. The team worked with our Haitian teams and community focus groups to develop meaningful data and surveys to evaluate the impact of our programs, particularly our malnutrition programs and those related to safe drinking water. The team also worked with our nurses at four clinical sites, to help and enrich our malnutrition programs for children and the education of their families, and to provide direct medical care to these children as well.
